Hey, there! I wanted to just tell you a little bit about myself, my family, and the vision for Katalyst Ministries.
Currently my beautiful wife, Kimberly, and I live in San Angelo, Texas with our three children, Kaiden, Kait and Kreed. We have called San Angelo home since we both came here in 1993 to attend Angelo State University. Kimberly and I have been married since 1996, and the Lord continues to walk before us. I am a husband and a father first- my ministry goals are simple. I want to be a great husband and father. I want to see my children walk with Jesus and teach them how to train the next generation to do the same. I am blessed to speak in fronts of thousands of young people every year but if I miss God’s call on my life to husband and father well, I fail. (Sorry, I’m a preacher and I just get fired up sometimes- back to the bio)
I grew up in the small West Texas town of Lamesa, the oldest brother to the three most incredible sisters a brother could have. My father and mother are incredible Christian people and the true catalyst of my faith. I grew up in the church and under the preaching of my late grandfather, Reverend J.R. Williams. My grandfather instilled in me a strong passion for the Word of God and the advancement of the Kingdom of God.
I accepted Christ as my Savior at age 9 and received a call to the ministry at age 12. I said “yes” to Jesus but “no” to the ministry for the next 11 years. I now recognize this was my attempt to add God to my life rather than give God my life. I surrendered whole-heartedly to the Lord’s call on my life in 1998 and was ordained under my grandfather in December of that year. I took a position as Student Pastor at Glen Meadows Baptist Church in San Angelo, Texas and remained there until founding Katalyst Ministries in 2003.
Since surrendering my life to God’s call, He has given me an overwhelming passion for young people. I believe them to be the most passionate and incredible group of people on earth, and I truly believe revolution starts with them. I am also very passionate about the family and its role in the discipleship of the next generation for Jesus. Although we speak at lots of student-based events, we work very hard to include a conference time for adult leaders during the events. I want to encourage those that lead those that will one day lead my own. In 2009 I released a life’s work in a book called Broken Walls: And Those Called to Repair them. The book is an outpouring of my heart and I believe it contains a message from the Father to all of us that lead the next generation. If you have not read it, you need to get it today. God will challenge your heart as He continues to challenge mine everyday.
My ministry and preaching is intentionally relational, and my expectation for students is extremely high. I am not an entertainer or professional speaker, I am simply a sinner saved by grace, qualified by a supernatural call, and extremely compelled by Christ’s love to see the world come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and see the Church be the bride God intended for His Son.
I believe that today’s students need the authenticity and seriousness of God, and I pray that my preaching reflects those things. I must preach the Word of God in realness and without compromise in order to fulfill God’s call on my life. I understand that soon enough my life, my personality, my talents, my experience, and my passion will pass from this earth but the Word of God will always endure.
Why Katalyst? The Lord is still answering that question for me. I believe God has called this ministry to be a catalyst for change, growth, and revival in the local church and the advancement of His Kingdom. I simply want to be a part of God’s preparation of the Bride for His Son, and whatever that looks like, I’m in. My heart aches at the division of the Church and my soul sinks when I see methodology touted as the key for revival in the Church. God has called me to simply walk with Him and call the Church back to a place of repentance, unification, and power. I believe it is time for a renewal and revivial in the people of God like never before.
One of coolest things about all God has called us to be a part of is the work we do in Kenya, Africa at the Mattaw Children’s Village. After years of traveling to Africa, God called us to begin the process of rebuilding in the lives of the 1.9 million children orphaned in Kenya alone. In 2007 our ministry bought 7 acres of land in Kitale, Kenya and began the process of building an orphanage. In 2011, Mattaw Ministries became a separate organization that is governed by a separate board of directors and overseen by Bud and Kimberly Huffman who have been with us there since the beginning. In 2011, we will complete the last three of six homes and complete construction of the village. When complete the village will house over 70 orphans and include a church, a school, a medical clinic and a diary. Our prayer is that in 2012, we will begin construction on the Mattaw Baby Rescue Home which will eventually house 50 abandoned babies. If you want find out more about Mattaw you can go to the website at: www.mattawchildren.com.
A catalyst is something added to a certain mixture of things to create a permanent and obvious change. Jesus Christ, crucified and risen, is the only catalyst that exist for change in a lost world. We exist to see that change.
If you have any questions or would simply like to talk about having Katalyst Ministries come to your city or church, please contact us. I pray the Lord continues to go before you in all things and that His name be made famous in your life.
