There are currently 1.9 million orphans in the country of Kenya, Africa. Since the summer of 2005, Katalyst Ministries has been working to decrease that number. After spending the past several years working along side another ministry to operate a children’s home, we have recently partnered with the Imagine Network to build and operate a brand new children’s village in Kitale, Kenya. We purchased six acres of land just outside Kitale in April of 2007 and have begun construction of the Mattaw Children’s Village. When complete, the village will house around sixty orphans in six homes living as families along side their house parents.

What is Mattaw?
Mattaw is the Hebrew word for ‘garden’ or a ‘planting’ that is found in Isaiah 61:3. This scripture describes the motivation of our hearts. Our desire is to bind up the broken hearted, to set free from prison the captives, and to comfort those that mourn. Our prayer is that the living God will use us to bestow on these children a crown of glory instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. Our mission is our commission. We are in Kenya to see these children grow into life giving disciples of King Jesus that they will one day be called oaks of righteousness, a garden (Mattaw) of the Lord for the display of His splendor.
